Web Server Partner Project
- Introduce yourself to your partner!
- Decide on a project format
- Sample Options include:
- write a comic strip/story
- Photostory presentation
- Powerpoint presentation
- short story in Word (perhaps a children's fairy tale?)
- Create a "sticky paper" poster
- Write a skit (to be performed in class tomorrow OR recorded as a cell phone video and shown to Mrs. S. tomorrow)
- Create a web page
The topic MUST be "How Web Hosting Works" but YOUR TEAM decides how to present the information. The class will view all of the projects on Friday -- be prepared to give a 30-60 second introduction for your project.
Think about the six steps that the browser and web server go through to let you see a web page. These steps are in your How Web Servers Work PowerPoint file.
Some ideas:
- Use an analogy. Think about our class discussion of name servers -- if you say "Kelly's house", the name server knows the exact address (123 S. Main Streeet, Jackson, WY 83001) and can "point" you to that house. Your cell phone contact list is another good example -- you don't have to remember everyone's phone number -- the contact list does that for you.
- Anothehr possible analogy -- is a web page request kind of like ordering from a catalog? How does the information get to the company? How does the product get back to your house?
- When a web server is looking for something, it might act like your mom telling you where to find something. Go out to the garage, look in the storage closet, on the second shelf, for a box labeled "Halloween Decorations."
